Diplomatic relations between the USSR and India were established even before India officially proclaimed independence. The global standoff between two camps determined the nature of global policy for several decades, including the particularities of Soviet-Indian relations. India, which became one of the founders and the recognized leader of the Non-Aligned Movement, was always seen as a loyal ally in the combat against world imperialism.Traditionally, the Indo-Russian strategic partnership has been built on five major componentsPolitics, Defence,Civil nuclear energy, Anti-terrorism co-operation and Space.

On 18th December 2017 , India Russia Students Conference was jointly organized by the Ministry of External Affairs Goverment of India and Rus Education at Pravasi Bhartiya kendra , New Delhi the event was held to mark the Celebration of 70 years of Diplomatic Relations between India and Russia . The conference was basically aimed at providing guidance about studies to students of India and Russia.
