Russian Doctors Completes Surgery In A Burning Hospital

RUSEDUCATION

Russian doctors stayed behind to complete the open heart surgery inside a burning hospital.

Hippocrates, the father of the nation, once stated, “Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity.” The quote signifies the importance of medicine as the savior of humanity.

The said quote once again showcased its validity in the present. One of the tsarist-era hospitals in the far eastern Russian town of  Blagoveshchensk caught fire due to unbeknownst reasons on Friday, 2nd April 2021. The fire that broke on the roof slowly engulfed the entire building.

During the fire, a team of eight doctors and nurses were inside the operation theatre between an open-heart surgery. The team did not stop working even though the entire premises was being vacated by the fire-fighters.  The surgery went on for 2 hours amidst the fire. After the surgery was successfully completed, the patient along with the team transferred to a more safe place.

On the turn of events, one of the surgeons who was on the team and conducted the surgery, stated, “There’s nothing else we could do. We had to save the person. We did everything at the highest level.”

The firefighters reported on the time to extinguish the fire, and hence no casualties during the accident were reported. The fighters took about 2 hours to completely blow off the fire. In the meantime, while understanding the crucial importance to keep the surgery going, the fire-fighters arranged fans to keep out the smoke from the operation room and plugged in the power cable to keep the equipment powered with the electricity.

The fire-fighters and the operating team worked in complete coordination to tackle the situation.

This is one such instance, where the doctors, of course with the help from society, have fought off the adversity with a selfless purpose to fulfill their responsibility towards humanity. The story has been inspiring many other aspiring doctors and empowering their will to pursue the profession.
